Want
to spot some celebrities? Go east to the United Arab Emirates and check out
Dubai – the star spangled city at the edge of the desert. Read on for our guide
to the best places to find famous faces in Dubai.
You may know Dubai as an impossibly
glamorous city, home to some of the most fantastic buildings in the world – and
as a destination that has become synonymous with luxurious living. It's no
surprise the city is a favorite with globe-trotting stars drawn to this oasis
of opulence on the fringe of the Arabian Desert.
Loads of celebrities have been drawn to
the city to enjoy the
lifestyle that Dubai offers and some have decided to take the next step and
call the place home (at least that's what it says on their tax records!). From
fashion guru Giorgio Armani to Tennis legend Boris Becker, many big names are
now based in the emirate.
We've written up this short guide to
the places you'll want to go to get a taste of the high-life, not to mention
the opportunity to hob-nob with everyone from A-listers to… well, we'll get to
that later on.
Discover
Atlantis
The man-made islands known as. The
artificial archipelago was created in a spectacular palm tree formation, creating
an incredible spectacle that has to be seen to be
believed.
The island formation is home to several
glamorous spots, including the Atlantis resort which opened to great fanfare in
2008. In terms of celebrity-spotting opportunities, this was second to none
with a list of guests which included Charlize Theron, Robert DeNiro, Janet Jackson
and Michael Jordon.
The area is still a hotbed for
celebrity activity, and recently featured in an episode of everyone's favorite
reality show, The Only Way is Essex. Towie's Joey Essex hosted a beach party at Nasimi Beach, inviting
fellow star Lauren Pope to do a DJ set.
OK, so Joey Essex may not be DeNiro but
in terms of throwing amazing, fun parties I know whose guest list I'd rather
make….
Stars
of the green screen
If there's one thing that you know is
going to draw some celebrities out of the Holly-woodwork it's golf – and Dubai
has the kind of world class courses that keep those stars coming back. And the
emirate is getting more top courses all the time, including
one from celebrity business man Donald Trump.
That
new course will join a long list of top notch golfing venues already in Dubai.
At a couple you might even be lucky enough to spot one of the course designers
who are often big name golfers themselves. Greg Norman is the man behind the
design the two courses which make up Jumeirah Golf Estates, while Colin Montgomerie
oversaw the layout of the imaginatively titled course, The Montgomerie.
Dubai
International Film Festival
If you're serious about spotting
celebrities then there's one time in the year that you really must visit the
emirate. When the Dubai
International Film Festival is on, all the big names come to town in an
eight day celebration of the big screen.
This year the festival takes place from
6 to 14 December and, if it matches last year's event, you'll hardly be able to
move for fear of tripping on a star. A fantastic range of movies from around
the world were shown throughout the festival and the red carpet was graced by
stars such as Colin Firth, Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara.
Of course you'll find that you often
don't have to make much of an effort to bump into celebrities during a stay in
Dubai. You could find yourself rubbing shoulders with global superstars like
Usher just by taking a trip to popular
tourist attractions like the Burj Khalifa. Maybe you'll be able to make
those spectacular holiday photos just a little more glamorous!
What's
your best celebrity spot?
